About Kerith Asma
Hello! My name is Kerith Asma, and I have been teaching in Chicago since 2013. I've taught English and literacy classes to all levels of high school; I've also taught college writing at the University of Chicago. This is my 6th year at BOYCP, and I'm so excited for the 2022-23 school year because I love working with our incredible students and families. I teach English 4 and Creative Writing, and I co-sponsor two clubs: Run Club and Dream Pursuers.

As an educator, my pedagogy is rooted in two goals: give students tools and strategies for surviving under late capitalism, and create experiences that help students live joyfully as their fullest selves. I believe that Black lives matter. I believe that no one is illegal. I believe all humans deserve dignity and compassion. I believe in the power of community to make change, and I believe in the power of literature to help us envision and create that future. My goal is to create opportunities for students to explore the vast complexity and beauty of human experience, including their own.
Outside the classroom, you'll find me reading, playing videogames, hanging out with my cat, Brioche, and going for walks in Chicago's parks and forest preserves. I live with my partner of 10 years in Humboldt Park.
