Hi everyone, my name is Kate Apfelbeck I am so excited to begin my second year teaching here at Back of the Yards College Prep! I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and got my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The Ohio State University. After college, I decided to spend a year abroad in Ayutthaya, Thailand, and I planned to teach English while there. I taught in a large Thai government school with over 4,500 students. I had such a blast in this school and before long I was completely in love with teaching. Upon returning to the U.S. in 2017, I enrolled in DePaul University’s Education program, graduating with a Master of Education in 2019.
When I am not teaching, I love to read, run (well...jog), cook, hike, watch college football, and hang out with my friends and family. I love to travel, and try to explore new places whenever I can. I am very passionate about current events, youth civic involvement, and mental health awareness, which is part of the reason I love teaching US History and Psychology!
Outside of teaching US History and Psychology, I also am involved in the boys and girls soccer programs. I co-coach the sophomore boys soccer team, and am the assistant coach for the varsity girls team! (GO BOBCATS!)
