Andres Avila, School Counselor

About Me:

My name is Mr. Avila and serve as the junior class counselor at BOYCP.  This is my third year here at the school, but I've been in Back of the Yards since the 1970's since it is also where I grew up!  I am very happy and proud to be serving the same community that helped shape my brother and I's life and careers!  At BOYCP, I also enjoy sponsoring clubs and helping out with sports teams like Girls' Tennis, Football, Dream Pursuers, and the Black Student Union.

 

I have been working as an educator in Chicago for 18 years!  (wow I'm old!)  I have worked at Curie H.S., central office for CPS, and I also spent 10 years helping middle school students at Namaste Charter School near McKinley Park.

 

When I'm not working I am usually enjoying meals with my family, playing with my daughter, talking about movies or sports with one or both of my sons, or enjoying a fun night out with my beautiful wife!  I also love spending time with my big family and my brother that now lives in Atlanta, GA, or with friends having dinners or watching sporting events!
