CPS State Seal of Biliteracy
The State Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition given to high school seniors who have studied and can exhibit the ability to communicate in two or more languages (including English) by their senior year of high school. The Seal is highlighted on the high school diploma and serves as a statement of accomplishment for college admission and future employment.
High School seniors can qualify for the State Seal of Biliteracy, which is a recognition given to high school seniors who have studied and can exhibit the ability to communicate in two or more languages (including English), by demonstrating proficiency in English and in World Language.
High School seniors can qualify for the State Seal of Biliteracy, which is a recognition given to high school seniors who have studied and can exhibit the ability to communicate in two or more languages (including English), by demonstrating proficiency in English and in World Language.
English proficiency can be demonstrated by either:
- A score of 480 or higher on the EBRW section of the SAT
- An ACCESS Composite score of 4.8 or higher (only available to high school English Language Learner (EL) students)
- An ACT Composite score of 21 or higher
- An AP English Language test score of 5
- A final grade of B or higher on an English Language Arts dual credit course
Proficiency in a World Language can be demonstrated by:
- A score of 4 or 5 on an AP World Language exam
- A score of "Intermediate High" or higher on all four language domains on a district-approved assessment, such as the Language Testing International AAPPL text or the Avant STAMP 4S assessment
The Seal is highlighted on the high school diploma and serves as a statement of accomplishment for college admission and future employment. Recipients are also eligible to qualify for college credit if they attend a public university in Illinois.
To be considered for this recognition and to take the world language assessment exam between Monday, March 28 and Friday, April 8, please confirm you meet at least one of the two criteria listed above (either English or World Language proficiency) and complete the following survey by Monday, January 31, 2022.
